Now is the time to start preparing for the busy season. It gets crazy, for sure! Here’s how to enjoy the Christmas silly season without burning yourself out.

Here are my tips:

-Don’t overbook! I know it’s easier said than done… is it worth squeezing that extra client to stress the whole day? How much will working an extra-long day positively impact you?

It is essential to book time gaps every few days in a client’s space. This allows you to move bookings for your clients or accommodate last-minute sickness or personal appointments. If this time gap still exists the day or so before, you can offer it as a last-minute appointment.

-Allow time for any added spa services, unique photography, etc., you provide this time of year. You don’t want to rush pets or run late all day, which can cause stress.

-Rebook for the next year before December or online. You have enough to do this month.

-Complete all Christmas shopping online or after hours. If you have the energy after a big day, you’d be surprised how quiet it is on a weekday night at the shops.

-Order your special bandanas, collars, treats, backdrops, etc., in October/early November. This allows for late postage or buying in from overseas.

-I personally no longer hold cancellation lists in December. Most cancellations you call will be booked elsewhere or not answered in time, which wastes time texting and waiting for responses. All last-minute bookings are posted on my Facebook page or filled in at the time of cancellation.

-Message bank: Ask your callers to message the phone number or email for all other enquiries. When you are working, unless you have a receptionist, you need this time for grooming and for the client’s full attention.

-If you’re making client gifts, decide on them now. This gives you plenty of time to source materials. If you’re hand-making, make sure it’s all ready to go beforehand.

-Book your massage, chiropractor, physio, and self-care appointments to help you cope with extra work and stress. Otherwise, you will be so sore by Christmas and won’t have time. I go at least weekly during the busy period.

-Stock up on your usual shampoos, coat and spa products, and anything else you will use in December and January. Many wholesalers close for a few weeks in January.

-For the last pets of the last day of work, I like to book my own pets, and if you really are tired, just finish early 😊
Remember to breathe! Keep calm and try to enjoy the holiday season.
I hope this helps!
