A Professional Groomer’s Long‑Term Review
Dryer boxes and drying cabinets are frequent topics of discussion in cat grooming, particularly for cats that are fearful of dryer noise, reactive to certain grooming steps, or unable to tolerate traditional hand-drying. After extended hands-on use of multiple drying cabinets and feedback from another experienced groomer, I wanted to share a balanced, real-world review of where these tools fit into professional cat grooming.
We groom approximately 8-10 cats per day, and drying cabinets are not used on every cat. Instead, they are used strategically, often once every few days, for cats that are noise‑sensitive, reactive to specific areas, highly aggressive, arthritic seniors, fearful kittens, or when managing multiple cats from the same household. This post is not sponsored and reflects genuine professional experience.
What Is a Cat Drying Box or Cabinet?
A cat drying box or cabinet is an enclosed unit that uses internal fans to circulate air evenly around the cat. Most cabinets include:
- At least one clear viewing panel
- Adjustable fan speed
- Heat and temperature controls (regulate the temperature of the cabinet)
- A timer (critical for safety)
- Lighting and airflow modes
- Optional features such as negative ion technology or infrared therapy
Many models also include access ports, allowing the groomer to gently pet or comb the cat while drying.

What to Look for When Buying a Drying Cabinet
Before purchasing, it’s important to consider:
- Size: Choose a cabinet that comfortably fits the largest cats you groom. Cramped spaces compromise airflow and comfort.
- Fan Speed: Stronger airflow improves drying efficiency, but must be adjustable.
- Timer: A non‑negotiable safety feature.
- Thermostat & Heat Control: The unit must have an automatic cut‑off to prevent overheating.
- Wattage & Electrical Needs: Higher wattage increases airflow but also electrical demand.
- Sound Level: Cabinets typically operate between 30–70 dB, far quieter than standard pet dryers.
- Voltage Compatibility: Imported units may require transformers.
- Warranty & Servicing: Always buy from a reputable supplier with local support.
- Shipping & Insurance: Cabinets are large and can be damaged in transit; ensure shipments are insured and inspected immediately.
My Experience: Drybo Plus by HomeRunPet
Positives
- Extremely quiet, making it ideal for noise‑sensitive cats
- Very low stress for frightened cats, seniors, and kittens
- Adjustable fan speed, temperature and drying modes
- Control panel locks to prevent accidental changes
- Clear visibility at all times to monitor stress
- Easy external opening if a cat becomes distressed
- Side access doors for gentle petting or combing
- Easy to clean with a removable base tray
- Compact, lightweight, and space‑efficient
- Excellent for drying sensitive areas such as the head or belly
- Helpful when grooming multiple cats from one household
The Drybo Plus comfortably fits cats up to approximately 7 kg. Larger cats may feel restricted, and airflow can be compromised.
Limitations
- Drying time is long: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on coat and size
- Does not separate the coat (hand finishing is required)
- Larger cats are not ideal for this unit
- The locking panel can be confusing at first
- Higher cost than basic dryers
I personally never leave a cat for longer than one hour, always supervised with breaks.
The Kiss Grooming 907TN Pet Drying Cabinet – Combined Feedback & Long‑Term Use
Feedback from another groomer (Judith of Pampered Pussycats Australia), combined with my own use since October 2025, has shown the Kiss Grooming Pet Drying Cabinet to be a highly effective professional option.
Positives
- Comfortably fits large cats (8 kg+), including Maine Coons
- Can accommodate multiple cats when appropriate
- Multiple internal fans provide even airflow
- Average drying time 45–60 minutes
- Highly accurate thermostat with automatic safety cut‑off
- Negative ion technology
- Infrared treatment options
- Access front door for petting or combing
- Easy‑clean pull‑out tray and removable filters
- Does not require a transformer
- Can be serviced through the supplier
- Significantly improved underside drying — paws are no longer left damp, which has been a noticeable improvement over earlier cabinet model
Considerations
- Does not separate the coat (hand drying still required)
- Larger footprint than the Drybo Plus
- Higher price point than entry‑level cabinets
- Shipping is expensive, as weighs 60kg, plus shipping may be required for repairs.

My Personal Experience Since October 2025
Since purchasing the Kiss Grooming Pet Drying Cabinet in October 2025, it has become an essential part of my salon workflow, particularly for:
- Cats that are fearful of dryers
- Highly aggressive cats
- Arthritic Seniors and sensitive kittens
- Double appointments (wash one cat, cabinet dry, wash the other, rotate)
It has been easy to clean, with very few urination incidents. All cats have tolerated it well because it can be run at very low settings. Clients have observed its use and have been comfortable when it is explained clearly.
For cats sensitive to airflow around the face, an Elizabethan collar can be used to limit direct airflow. Compared to the Drybo Plus, the Kiss Grooming Pet Drying Cabinet is more efficient overall, particularly underneath the body and feet. As with all cabinets, filters must be cleaned and disinfection performed between cats.
I purchased my unit from Oz Grooming World, though a China‑based supplier, Zhang Gang, now sends to Australia, and Jirpet models are now also available.
Final Thoughts
I am glad I invested in drying cabinets. They do not replace proper hand drying, but they are a valuable tool when used correctly. They improve safety, reduce stress, and help manage time in busy salons, especially for cats that would otherwise be unsafe or highly distressed with traditional dryers.
As always, it comes down to cost versus efficiency and whether the cabinet will genuinely improve welfare in your grooming environment.
There is no substitute for skilled handling and observation.
