It’s so important to use your time off after Christmas to not only rest, but reflect on the previous year, and plan for the new year.

Items of reflection

Retail

Items selling, and those not selling. Are any wasting space or your time for how much you get make on them?

Marketing

What worked, what failed? What did I waste time/money on?

Services

Highest grossing services, and if any are wasting time and money for your business.

Profit

Profit and loss calculation compared to last year (if applicable).

Time in business

Should you be outsourcing more? Virtual assistant, bookkeeper, etc.

Goals

If you hit your personal and business goals.

Working days

Holidays, work roster and hours.   Did it work for you? Does it need to change?

Staff

Pay and renumeration.   Are they at the level and pay they should be at? Are they feeling valued? Do you need to take on more staff?

Equipment maintenance

Does any equipment need replacement, servicing or cleaning?

Software

Is your software up to date, data backed up (and often), or do you need to look for a new POS system?

Planning

If you have not planned your workdays and holidays for 2023, it’s now the time to do so!

Here is an example of a good planning calendar that I use before imputing into my grooming software: Australia Calendar 2022 – Free Printable Excel templates (calendarpedia.com)

Don’t forget to add:

  • Booking holidays in advance
  • Public holidays and long weekends
  • School holidays (if applicable)
  • Staff holidays
  • Time off for yourself!
  • Time for tax paperwork/bookkeeping
  • Opening hours and staff roster

Setting goals

Separate your goals into business and personal, or even further into educational, financial, career, family, etc.  This helps prevent burnout and gives you something to work towards.

Set Business and personal goals using the SMART system:

S- Specific

M- Measurable

A- Achievable

R- Relevant

T- Trackable

Here is a free printable goal setting template for you and your business.

I wish you and your family have a safe and restful holiday season.
